Exterior Features

Although the designs and layouts of the libraries may have been standardised to an extent, it is clear that the materials used to build were often locally sourced. As a result the typical “Queen Anne Style” of red brick with contrasting pale stone or terracotta dressings prevalent in the south and the midlands is not so common further north, where the buildings tend to be faced in the local stone.
